The GUID for this proxy is appended to the name of the service. Is this normal? I also have no way to edit the properties.

This is for SharePoint 2013.

Yes this is normal. If you want to risk changing it, here's how in PowerShell:

$x = Get-SPServiceApplicationProxy | ? { $_.TypeName -eq "Application Discovery and Load Balancer Service Application Proxy" }

Unfortunately the DisplayName property is Read Only and ends with an underscore character, so your options for a naming convention are limited.

Caution: your admins and/or developers may be assuming the Name property matches the ID of the ADLBSA Service Application (the GUID we just removed).

[UPDATE]: I just noticed that when I delete and re-create the Service Application which caused the ADLBSAProxy to be created, a new ADLBSAProxy is created again with the GUID appended. So I for one will not be renaming this Proxy.
