Failed to apply patch for osrchwfesp1-x-none.msp

Oct 23, 2012 at 8:09 PM

When running the AutoSPInstaller script using

SharePoint Server 2010 with Service Pack 1 (x64) - DVD (English) - iso file dated 11/11/2011 obtained from https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/subscriptions/securedownloads/hh442898#searchTerm=&ProductFamilyId=393&Languages=en&Architectures=x64&PageSize=10&PageIndex=0&FileId=0
on a fresh, clean Windows 2008 R2 SP1 server...

The AutoSPInstaller powershell transcript reports:

 - Installing SharePoint binaries.............................................................................................................................................Done.
 - SharePoint setup completed in 00:11:42.
WARNING: Error: Type: . PatchApplicationFailure ErrorCode:
-2147467259(0x80004005). Unspecified error
--------------------------------------------------------------
 - Script aborted!
 - Review the log file and try to correct any error conditions.

I am seeing an error in the script log file "Failed to apply patch for osrchwfesp1-x-none.msp".

I'm having a devil of a time finding information about that particular file so I'm at a loss for where to start looking for the underlying cause.

Can someone help me understand what the issue may be?

Thanks!

Do you have any updates in your SP2010\SharePoint\Updates folder? If so, those may not be getting applied. If there's nothing in there (as I suspect), there's something that's corrupt:

1. Either your download of the ISO is corrupt. SharePoint installed fine but when applying SP1, its failing.

2. Something wrong with your server where it's unable to apply SP1.

Usually a reboot fixes these things, if not, you may need to reinstall Windows Server (or at least run an sfc /scannow).

You could also try disabling any antivirus stuff running on the server, or try slipstreaming a post-SP1 cumulative update in there too (June 2012 is latest stable IMO).

http://autospsourcebuilder.codeplex.com is another script/project I maintain, it can help you with the CU downloading & slipstreaming.

This issue could very well be related to http://autospinstaller.codeplex.com/workitem/18949 and thus could be resolved with the latest changeset. Please have a try and let me know.

Thx
