SQL Alias for Search Database Server

Jul 13, 2011 at 3:08 PM

The script provides a way to use a different database server for the Enterprise Search databases than all others. I'm intending to use this in my STAGE and PROD farm builds.

I've also seen several posts (here & elsewhere) indicating that using SQL aliases is a recommended best practice in case you need to move your databases to a new server at some future time.

The AutoSPInstallerInput.xml file provides a way to set an alias for the primary database server, but I don't see one for the separate Search database server. Am I missing something? If not, is there a workaround? (For example, could I create the SQL alias manually before running the script and then use the alias for the EnterpriseSearchServiceApplication DatabaseServer attribute?)

Thanks!

Mike,

You can (and should) set it manual beforehand. Simply run "cliconfg" to use the GUI: http://wiki.wahidsaleemi.com/Pages/SQL_Server_Setting_Alias
