Remote Install Errors

Apr 12, 2013 at 9:48 AM
Hi,

I've used the tool to set up indidvidul serers but was looking at using the remote install feature. I think I'm close to getting this to work but for some reason the software is not installing correctly. Below is a copy of the part of the log file that relates to the remote install.

The main issue is that the prerequisites and KB are not being installed although the log file thinks it has.

Checking the Event Viewer of the server VGSHPTAPP01 shows an error

Windows update could not be installed because of error 2147942405 "Access is denied." (Command line: ""C:\Windows\system32\wusa.exe" "\VGSHPTWEB01\C$\SP\SharePoint\PrerequisiteInstallerFiles\Windows6.1-KB2708075-x64.msu" /quiet /norestart ")

This seems to be linked to the MS Article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2773898 which suggests installing WUSA on a remote machine is not supported.

I was just wondering if this is a neccessary or if I have missed some step.

Yes this definitely sounds like a known issue... was trying to find the link reference for another discussion but for some reason can't. Best bet might be to pre-install Windows Management Framework 3.0 on all your servers first, unfortunately.

Brian

Thanks for the response. Your suggestion has worked and the installation is working great.

Thanks

Yep I was having the same issue a few days ago and the only workaround I could find was to pre-install on all servers then re-run the script.

How about copying this into a work item. Although we can't do anything about it now, it would be good to follow up occasionally to see if anyone else has found a solution or if MSFT fixes this.

Hi guys !

Something new about this issue ?

Got it also... (WS 2008 R2 SP1 full updates at 31/07/2013)

The access denied error is strange because I can access and launch this KB from the remote server using the network shared path :
\SPserver1\SP\2013\SharePoint\PrerequisiteInstallerFiles\Windows6.1-KB2506143-x64.msu

Thanks
