SQL Server Instance and Dynamic Ports

Oct 30, 2012 at 9:52 PM

Is there a way in the configuration to tell AutoSPInstaller to create the alias to use dynamic ports?

If you leave the DBPort value blank, it should use dynamic ports. That's the default behavior, dynamic ports are used unless you've specified a port.

Of course, my 2 cents is that you should specify a port and open only that port between SQL and SharePoint.

Yes, I figured that part out pretty quick. The one thing I will mention in using dynamic ports, is if you are using a SQL instance. The SQL Browser service will answer that request first, and it will not be on 1433. I have found this to be common amongst the larger clients, especially for their production environments.

Thanks for the response guys, as always very much appreciated!
